Tracking Test May 2, 2025: Report from the Event Chair Hans Muessig

A near perfect tracking day: cool with moist grass and little breeze. Twig and Merrielle Turnbull finished a TD in fine form as did Boots, a Golden Retriever owned by Barb Mattheis, and Iris, an English Springer owned by Calli Owens and handled by Greg Rowan. Twig is nearly 13 years old.

We had 6 entries for the TD/TDX test – including 3 WSS at the Ottawa Field Trial Grounds between Milwaukee and Madison. Three or the four TDs passed; unfortunately neither of the TDX entrants passed. Thank you to two wonderful judges Nan Cochrane and Becky Johnson! And to huge thank you to all the volunteer tracklayers from WSSCA and several local tracking clubs: Venita Aldrich, Beth Comstock, Cynthis Curran, Peggy Granger, Heather Green, Kim Laird, Kim Petak, Gary Schmidt (flag carrier). Finally, I am eternally grateful to Donna Stebbins, who as Head Tracklayer kept everything running smoothly and preserved my sanity! Applause to all involved!

Hunt Test May 2, 2025: Report from the Event Chair, Lisa Juday

“We held a special AKC Spaniel Hunting Test with a focus on Welshies at Milford HIlls hunting club in conjunction with our National.  12 dogs were entered, 5 of which were Welshies, and they were entered in all 3 categories, from Junior to Senior and even Master levels, which is a wonderful thing.  The test went quite smoothly thanks to the many volunteers and the great judges and gunners on site.  For those who were also entered in the Iron Welsh, a qualifying score meant lots of points towards the big ribbons.  I want to thank everyone who came out and helped make it happen, especially a huge thanks to Aki Pampush who was the event secretary and really did 90% of the work, and her husband Frank who helped with the layout of the field and other logistic issues.

“It was a wonderful experience and so much fun seeing lots of old friends and meeting new ones, learning new tricks, and honing old ones.  Thanks again to the Heartland WSSCA club for supporting this vital event for our breed.”
